A propos d'Alain Micquiaux Cerf-volant

Self-taught, passionate, I have been creating and developing kites since 1995. My knowledge of aerodynamics, a mastery of technology and a certain artistic sense make me an experienced and atypical creator of the kite world.

More than an aerodyne, the kite is a sculpture with which I compose in the landscape. The wind is my partner. Uncontrollable, it teaches me patience and humility.

I use kites in an entire work. In the search for aesthetic values, I like to suggest the invisible movements of air in the dance of my drawings. Each device is invented to be autonomous and self-stable in order to make the technique disappear and make the link evident with the elements.

A developing market

Passionate in 1990, it was three years later that my career began in the world of kites by a role of salesman for distributor Le Bilboquet. At the heart of a growing market, I am more motivated by technology and forms than by trade. I am inspired by all the wealth of different types of kites, whether traditional, artistic, sports or fun.
In 1996, I became designer in a collaboration with the historical industrialist in Europe Eolo Sport. I am working on modernizing the range of acrobatic kites.

A world cup

Curious about everything, I try to compete and qualify in 1998 for the World Cup in the capital of the kite: the International Festival of Dieppe. I then use the musical theme of “The Pink Panther” which will be a great success with the public. In the category acrobatic 4 lines, I climb on the 3rd step of the podium.
Since 1994, the experience of painting a canvas on the ground with a 4-line kite is also very rewarding. This is my first artistic approach by kite flying.

A new domain

Motivated by the creation of unpublished flying objects, in 2000, the Morpho butterfly kite is born of my imagination. So I fly my butterflies by tens to create a real cloud. Under the amazed gazes and comments of passersby, I discover a new form of sharing and interest in a fabulous exhibition area. The idea of staging installations and flying tables is essential.

Cerf-Volant Papillon Morpho

It is in search of evidence that I create kites “O” and the “Poisson” in 2005. With these new self-stable creations, sculpting real flying pictures all makes sense.

Since the construction of the first Morpho, the quest for a flying flower finds culmination in 2009 by the invention of the Poppy. Now I grow all over the world, real fields of this symbolic flower.

At the landscape scale

From thread to needle, the flying drawings become richer and the techniques are simplified. From investments in experiments, the installations grow and allow sculptures that can be seen and read over long distances.
Always looking for places unlikely for such artistic developments, I draw and sculpts scale landscapes.
